UK’s First New Ferris Wheel Design in 125 Years Set to Revolutionise the Skyline

History is turning full circle—literally. Today in a landmark achievement for engineering and entertainment, UK-owned and based company Amusement Technical announces plans to manufacture the UK’s first observation wheel in 125 years, reimagining an icon that has captivated thrill-seekers since the late 19th century. With Amusement Technical having already sold its first wheel for delivery in Spring 2026.

Now, Amusement Technical, a Lancashire-based engineering, technical services and design firm, has unveiled a state-of-the-art reinvention that blends advanced materials, clean design, and an innovative passenger experience.

“For 132 years, since George Washington Gale Ferris Jr. built the first Ferris wheel for the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, Ferris wheels have symbolised wonder and progress. We’re carrying that tradition into the 21st century by combining technology with timeless spectacle”, comments Sean Brian, Founder and Director, Amusement Technical. “It’s amazing that not one UK company has built an observation wheel since 1896 when the Gigantic Wheel Company built a wheel for Blackpool. As a team we are proud to carry that legacy forward and bring design and manufacture home to the UK.”

The wheel is slated to debut in 2026, standing 120 feet tall and featuring panoramic glass capsules equipped with cutting edge LED displays with the potential to deliver an augmented reality overlay. At night, the wheel itself will become a living canvas dazzling audiences with customisable light shows.

As the countdown to its grand launch begins, Sean Brian is fielding enquiries for orders for 2027 delivery. “The factory is abuzz with enthusiasm for building the inaugural wheel and pride in knowing that we’re the first UK company to manufacture a wheel in over 125 years. Hopefully this will raise awareness of how capable the UK manufacturing industry is and what can be achieved by small and medium sized businesses.”
